Minister’s Pastoral Letter May 25

Dear friends

We’ve all heard the expression – ‘they can talk the talk, but can they walk the walk?’ – meaning there will always be those who say all the right things but they are not necessarily reflected in their actions.

As we look around at world leaders and others, it can be hard to find people who are truly authentic, those with integrity – in that their words are matched by their actions. However, we do have a great example in Jesus of someone who lived in truth- he ‘talked the talk’, but also ‘walked the walk’- his words are matched by his actions.

It’s important that the words we speak are reflected in our actions- especially when it comes to faith. Over the past couple of years our Synod theme has been Talking Faith- encouraging us to speak about our faith when given an opportunity, and doing so in a human and gentle way.

This year, we have a new Synod theme – Living Faith- a reminder that we don’t just talk about it (though that’s important) we live it out. It’s about our actions as well as our words.

The theme suggests two questions for us to think about:

How are we living out our faith in the here and now? Are our actions coming from a heart of faith? How are we being everyday disciples in everyday life?

And also – Is our faith a living faith or has it become stagnant or sleeping?

As we face issues affecting us, our community and our world, how will we put our faith into action? As individuals and as a church?

Something for us to think about….

To help us, our Synod is launching this new theme of Living Faith at Hoole URC on Sat 7 June 10am- 3pm Lunch is provided. This Living Faith Day will include talks, discussions and interactive workshops to help people start to think about it.. Special guest will be Revd Dr Cris Rogers. Its free, you just need to book. (I enclose an online link https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/urc-mersey-synod/living-faith-day/2025-06-07/10:00/t-krnmldj or speak to our church secretary about booking)

I’m sure we will be hearing more..

Your friend and minister,

Cath
