Dear friends,
“How lovely on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good
news, who proclaim peace…” Is 52:7 (NIVUK)
In this month we mark Remembrance Sunday. We mark and
remember all those who have died in service to others and in service to
their country during war and conflict.
As I think back to the days of the world wars, of the hardships service
personnel endured, along with the rationing and anxiety ordinary
people were living under, all making daily sacrifices, I think how
marvellous it must have been when there was an announcement of
peace. How wonderful to have seen and heard the messenger and the
message of peace.
And today, even now, many people around the world are still
undergoing daily sacrifice and hardship in war zones and areas of
conflict and how they must long to see a messenger and to hear a
message of peace.
Our own service personnel are still giving their commitment and their
lives for the protection and safety of others.
It was no different even in biblical times. Those who first heard Isaiah’s
message were living through difficult times- invasion, captivity, and
oppression. Yet Isaiah offers them these words of hope and comfort.
There is a messenger running towards them, bringing good news of
peace, peace that comes when God reigns.
When we live under Gods reign and not our own, there is true peace.
Peace with God that spills over into peace with our neighbour. When
we let God reign in our lives, his peace within us is enduring so that
whatever is happening around us, we can still know that peace.
May you know Gods enduring peace today.
Your friend and minister,
Cath
