Pastorate letter – December/January

Dear friends,
This time of year the nights are longer and we have more
opportunity to enjoy the night sky. It is amazing to see. On a clear
night you can clearly identify constellations and planets – Orion,
Mars, and Ursa minor, among others.
I love to spend a bit of time looking up at the stars, and for some
of us, stars are a bit of a theme this year. Friends at Ormskirk St
Church have been busy crocheting and knitting stars. These have
been put into star gift bags which will be hung outside church on
the railings in December.
At the Christmas tree festival, some of our Christmas trees will be
adorned with created stars – folks from the memory café have
been making stars and these will decorate their Christmas tree.
These home-made stars remind us of a different star- one that
features in our Christmas story. A rising star which was noticed by
eastern astrologers who recognised its significance and began to
follow it. A star that went ahead of them and came to rest above a
lowly dwelling and there, these astrologers found the child Jesus
with Mary his mother.
This star, this form of light, led people to the Christ-child. What
about us?
Like the star- do we, by our words and actions lead others to the
Christ-child?
Do we carry the Christ-light within us?
Now is the perfect time of year to consider this. Now is the perfect
moment to find out more, if you choose to.
We look forward to welcoming you to our Christmas events and
services. Come and encounter the Christ-child. Come and
encounter His light, love-light that can bring you hope, peace, joy
and love this Christmas and always.

Every blessing to you and yours this Christmas season
Your friend and minister, Cath
